The Grasshoppers of the Western U.S. Lucid mobile application serves as a valuable resource for identifying both adult and juvenile grasshopper stages commonly found in the western United States. It features an adult identification key that encompasses 76 species within the Acrididae family, with the notable inclusion of Brachystola magna from the Romaleidae family. For those unsure whether their specimens are adults or nymphs, a dedicated keys page provides necessary guidance.

Developed by USDA-APHIS-ITP in collaboration with various esteemed institutions—including the USDA-APHIS-PPQ-S&T CPHST Phoenix Lab, USDA-APHIS-PPQ Colorado SPHD Office, University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Chadron State College, and Identic Pty. Ltd.—this tool caters to users ranging from casual enthusiasts to seasoned research scientists.

The accompanying species fact sheets are enhanced by illustrations and photographs from Dr. Robert Pfadt of the University of Wyoming, complemented by additional imagery from Mathew L. Brust of Chadron State College. The project was spearheaded by key authors Mathew Brust, Jim Thurman, Chris Reuter, Lonnie Black, Robert Quartarone, and Amanda Redford.
